On June 2, 2026, H.R.H. Grand Duke Guillaume visited Kalbermillen in the Our Valley at the invitation of the “Hëllef fir d'Natur” Foundation.
The focus was on the one-of-a-kind breeding station dedicated to the freshwater pearl mussel, one of Europe’s most endangered animal species, which in Luxembourg is now found only in the Our River. The visit also provided an opportunity to learn about the work of the Water Experience Center (WEZ) and the long-term nature conservation projects being carried out in the “Ourdall” Natura 2000 site.
During a walk through the valley, the Grand Duke was able to see for himself the restoration efforts, the protected habitats, and the foundation’s commitment to biodiversity conservation.
This visit highlights the importance of nature conservation in Luxembourg and serves as a valuable recognition of the work done by the staff who dedicate themselves to our natural environment every day.
