"Cactus Blummewiss" is on display at the Belle Etoile: more than 30 years of partnership between Cactus S.A. and the Fondation Hëllef fir d'Natur support of biodiversity and nature in Luxembourg.
From July 9 to 18, 2026, the Belle Etoile shopping center will host the exhibition “Mir entdecken d'Blummewiss,” the result of more than 30 years of collaboration between Cactus and the Fondation Hëllef fir d'Natur.
Through this free educational tour, visitors are invited to discover the richness of Luxembourg’s flower-filled meadows, as well as all the projects developed jointly by Cactus and the Foundation to raise public awareness about biodiversity conservation.
This exhibition highlights Cactus Blummewiss in particular—the most recent project to emerge from this historic partnership—alongside Cactus Bësch, Cactus Bongert, and Cactus Weier.
More than 30 years of shared commitment to nature
Since 1993, Cactus has actively supported the Fondation Hëllef fir d'Natur its mission to protect nature in Luxembourg. Over the years, this partnership has gradually evolved into a true long-term collaboration centered on a common goal: preserving Luxembourg’s natural habitats while raising public awareness.
Today, this collaboration has made it possible to develop four educational nature reserves representing four iconic ecosystems in Luxembourg:
- Bësch Cactus, dedicated to the forest;
- Cactus Bongert, dedicated to traditional orchards;
- Cactus Weier, dedicated to ponds and wetlands;
- Cactus Blummewiss, dedicated to flower-filled meadows.
In addition to restoration work and the management of natural sites, this partnership places a strong emphasis on raising awareness, particularly through educational trails led by the mascot Yuppi and educational brochures designed for families and schools.
Preserving biodiversity is a collective challenge. By helping everyone better understand the ecosystems around us, Cactus aims to encourage simple, concrete actions to help protect nature.
“Biodiversity is the foundation of our food, our agriculture, and our quality of life. As a Luxembourg-based company committed to our local community, we have a responsibility to help preserve these natural resources on which we all depend. Together with the Fondation Hëllef fir d'Natur, we aim to raise awareness among as many people as possible, because protecting nature begins with understanding it better. ” Véronique Schmitt, Director of Marketing, Communications, and CSR at Cactus
Blummewiss Cactus: Preserving One of Europe's Most Endangered Habitats
Once widespread, species-rich flower meadows are now among the most threatened natural habitats in Europe.
The intensification of agricultural practices, the abandonment of certain extensive farming systems, and the gradual disappearance of natural landscape features have led to a sharp decline in these exceptional habitats, which are capable of supporting up to 40 different plant species, as well as a particularly rich fauna consisting notably of butterflies, bees, birds, and numerous pollinating insects.
The Cactus Blummewiss project (2024–2028) aims to restore these habitats in western Oesling, between Doncols and Roodt/Ell, in the municipalities of Winseler, Lac de la Haute-Sûre, Boulaide, and Rambrouch.
The Fondation Hëllef fir d'Natur already owns 244 parcels Fondation Hëllef fir d'Natur , covering more than 77 hectares of meadows and pastures.
In particular, the project calls for:
- the restoration and acquisition of new parcels;
- the creation of a network of nearly 5 hectares of flower-filled meadows;
- the development of an educational trail around Surré, which will be open to the public starting in mid-2027;
- the creation of a new educational brochure titled “Den Yuppi entdeckt d'Blummewiss.”
Four projects, one goal
The exhibition also offers a look at the four initiatives developed jointly by Cactus and the Foundation.
Bësch Cactus – Lieler
Located in the Schujansbusch Nature Reserve, this 5.5-kilometer educational forest trail offers visitors the chance to learn about the vital role forests play in biodiversity, climate, and soil conservation.
Cactus Bongert – Ettelbruck
This 3-kilometer trail showcases traditional Luxembourg orchards and explains their importance to rural landscapes as well as to numerous animal and plant species.
Weier Cactus – Mensdorf
This 4-kilometer trail offers visitors the chance to explore the Syre ponds and the wetlands, which are home to remarkable biodiversity.
Blummewiss Cactus
His latest project raises visitors' awareness of the vital role played by flower-filled meadows, which serve as sanctuaries for pollinating insects that are essential to the proper functioning of ecosystems.
An exhibition to explore, understand, and take action
Photographs, educational displays, interactive content, and scientific information invite visitors to discover the diversity of Luxembourg’s natural habitats and to better understand their role in maintaining the balance of our environment.
By bringing these four projects together in a single exhibition, Cactus reaffirms its commitment to more sustainable development and continues its efforts to raise awareness among as many people as possible about the richness of Luxembourg’s natural heritage.
