Under the high patronage of HRH the Hereditary Grand Duke, the Fondation Hëllef fir d’Natur is launching its major annual planting campaign on Thursday, November 14.
Initiated by the Fondation Hëllef fir d’Natur in 1992, National Tree Day (JNA) marks the annual launch of a fundraising and awareness campaign aimed at encouraging public and private bodies, as well as citizens, to plant trees and shrubs, which are essential elements for biodiversity in both rural and urban areas.
This year, the foundation chose a plot of land in Wilwerwiltz as the planting site. At 11:45 AM, following welcoming remarks by Mr. Yves Kaiser, Mayor of the municipality of Kiischpelt, and speeches by Messrs. Patrick Losch, President of the Fondation Hëllef fir d’Natur, Serge Wilmes, Minister of the Environment, Climate and Biodiversity, and Michel Leytem, Director of the Nature and Forestry Administration, everyone got down to work. A total of 17 trees of various species (apple, cherry, pear, plum, chestnut, field maple, and lime) were planted, while cycle 3 students from the Wilwerwiltz primary school participated by planting several hedges on the same site. These trees and hedges will play a crucial role in maintaining biodiversity and combating climate change.
National Tree Day has become an unmissable annual event for anyone wanting to take concrete action against the loss of biodiversity, against climate change, and for nature conservation. For the official National Tree Day on Saturday, November 16, more than 40 municipalities, associations, and businesses have announced their activities, which are featured in the special "National Tree Day Regulus" magazine by natur&ëmwelt, available online at www.naturemwelt.lu.

Four national projects involving forest restoration as well as the planting of hedges, solitary trees, or fruit trees are being proposed. Individuals who are unable to plant trees themselves can support one of these projects at www.hellefnatur.lu.
